ITINERARY

Day 1: Masai Mara

Pick up 6:30 am in Nairobi, drive to Maasai Mara Game Reserve, whose name means "spotted plains" in the Maa language. This area is home to the largest concentration of large mammals and is widely known as Africa's ultimate game reserve. The park is the northern extension of the vast Serengeti Mara ecosystem, famous for its annual wildebeest migration. Enjoy a short game drive on the way to camp. Later in the afternoon, undertake another at this spectacular site of breathtaking scenery, endless plains and the greatest variety of wildlife in the world. The landscape consists of rolling savannahs with scattered shrubs and bush thickets.

You are staying at the Mara Elatia Camp, which is nestled in the peaceful North Western plains. ELATIA, meaning “The Good Neighbour” in Maa, is a twelve tented camp gracefully perched along the Oloololo escarpment of the Masai Mara. The camp overlooks the Mara River which is famous for the annual wildebeest migration between the months of July and September and faces one of the three ‘Kalema Hills’ where the epic movie “Out of Africa” was filmed.

Day 2-3: Masai Mara

After early breakfast, enjoy a morning and afternoon game drive. The reserve’s topography is mainly open savannah (grassland) with clusters of acacia trees along the South-eastern area of the park. The Mara and Talek rivers grace the rolling plains of the reserve. Myriad seasonal rivers appear during the rainy season but dry out once the rains are gone.

The Mara is the scene of the annual migration of millions of wildebeests from the Serengeti Plains in search of water and grasses. It is also home to the richest concentration of wildlife, including the “Big Five” (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo), zebras, antelope, gnus, Oribis, hyenas, giraffes, warthogs, gazelles, hartebeests, hippos, crocodiles and others. It has the largest concentration of African lions, including the black-maned lion. Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at the Masai Mara, which boasts over 400 different birds species.
